Buttermilk Pike Road Closure:
Please note that the only affects the portion of Buttermilk Pike between Meadowwood and Rogers.
Buttermilk Pike is closed for the next three months. Weather permitting, the full rip out and replacement of Buttermilk should be completed by the end of July. Please use the posted detours around the area. Police are strictly enforcing the speed limit on the side streets.
The Buttermilk Pike project has been in the works since 2015. It has been mentioned at a number of Council meetings and placed in newsletters over the past several years. It is a $1.35 million project designed to improve stormwater drainage in that area of the City that had been deteriorating the road and making travel dangerous at times. Because this had caused such a major problem over the years, the Transportation Cabinet and SD1 have both agreed to contribute $345,000 and $250,000 respectively. The project also includes replacing almost a mile of road.
The decision to close the road during construction had been discussed publicly at both Council meetings and Road Committee meetings. It was done at the recommendation of the City Engineer and the contractor. This closure will enable the project to move along more quickly. Thankfully this is a temporary closure that will ultimately result in a new, safer Buttermilk Pike that will last for many years.
We appreciate your patience during this time.
