There are new Share the Road signs being put in place throughout the City.  Eagle Scout Nathan Harmon has been working hard with local and state officials to create and place these signs to remind both Cyclists and Motorists to Share the Road.  Below are some Tips for both Cyclists and Motorists:

Tips for Cyclists:

  • Never Ride against traffic
  • Avoid passing on the right
  • Look over your shoulder before turning right
  • Wear Bright colors
  • Ride in a straight line
  • Don’t wear headphones while riding
  • Wear a Helmet
  • Know your hand signals
  • Set your headlight to strobe and use a back light as well
  • Follow All traffic signs and laws

Tips for Motorists

  • When passing a cyclist, give them plenty of room – at least 3 feet
  • Pass on the left – Make sure there are no cars in the other lane
  • Be patient
  • Check your blind spots for Cyclists
  • Pay special attention at crosswalks
  • When making turns, look for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Learn common biking hand signals
  • Avoid using your cell phone or electronics while driving
