TO:  Residents of Valley Trails

DATE: April 14, 2025

SUBJECT:  Valley Trails reconstruction project

FROM:  Craig T. Bohman, City Administrator

The City of Villa Hills has awarded the replacement of Valley Trails from Dalewood Drive to Dry Creek Court to Riegler Blacktop.  The work began on April 14, 2025.  The work is a full depth replacement of the street and will include new curbs, and driveway aprons.

Road projects always result in inconveniences, some minor, some major. This is unavoidable. There will be dirt, noise, tar, and debris. There may be equipment and materials placed in front of your home. Please do not drive on any areas that are coned or taped off. Contractors typically work on other projects while waiting for while waiting for materials or other contractors to finish work, so they may not work in your area every day. Wet weather will also delay the contractor as they wait for the ground to dry.

Short sections of Valley Trails will be closed completely from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The road will reopen in the evening with access to driveways graveled in. Once the project reaches the half way point, the contractor will go back and install curbs and driveway aprons which will require residents to have no access to their driveways for about a week. At that point the contractor will repeat this process on the other half of the project area. Everyone involved wants the project completed as quickly as possible. The City respectfully requests your patience and understanding while the project is underway.

In order to get the lowest bid price for taxpayers, the contractor has determined the best means, method, and schedule to complete the project at the contract price. This means that you cannot request the contractor to stop work, change equipment, or reschedule their work around events you may have planned. These requests from residents increase costs, delay the project, and could lead to breach of contract claims against the city. Please also be aware that at times, the road will be blocked and the equipment cannot be easily moved during that time.  Please give yourself extra travel time.  If you have concerns about the project, contact the Public Works Director, Derick “Buck” Yelton, at 859-393-6917 or via email at [email protected]. He is the point of contact between you and the contractor.

Roads will be closed to local traffic in the area where the contractor is actively working.  The Police Department will strictly enforce all parking and traffic restrictions. Access for Emergency Vehicles will be provided at all times.

The road work on Valley Trails was budgeted at approximately $535,000.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated while we work to provide Villa Hills with safe roads and secure home values.
